Nothing could have prepared the world for what it would see in 2020. I am taken aback, appalled, and angered at what I have seen in the past few days and upset that I didn't open my eyes to it sooner. My father was so happy to come to this country at only 12 years old because he and his brothers knew it was a land of opportunity. He even went as far as to serve for many years in the military.

He was raised, and I was raised to love this country in turn of that. Our troops have fought for a right to stand up for what is right and for citizens to roam the streets freely to practice anything one might want to. Just one act of police brutality is TOO MUCH. I vow to be a lasting advocate for the Black community.

As a non-Black ally, one of the most important things we can do in a time like now is to simply support. Support by standing with them, whether it be in peaceful protest or buying from their businesses. When looking to see what small businesses here on Long Island that I could support, I was able to find a few very helpful lists.
